Phlebotomy Technician Course

 

The Phlebotomy Technician Course at STARGA Training Institute prepares students with the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required to perform safe and accurate blood collection in clinical, laboratory, and healthcare settings. Course Overview

 

Students receive comprehensive instruction in:

  • Anatomy & physiology of the circulatory system
  • Venipuncture and capillary collection techniques
  • Specimen handling, labeling, and processing
  • Infection control & OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards
  • Safety protocols and sharps handling
  • Professional communication & patient interaction
  • Special collection procedures (pediatric, geriatric, difficult draws)
  • Laboratory regulations and quality assurance

Hands‑on practice is conducted using clinical‑grade equipment to ensure students develop confidence and proficiency before entering the field.

Program Requirements

 

To enroll in the Phlebotomy Technician Course, students must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Provide a valid government‑issued ID
  • Meet immunization requirements consistent with MA healthcare training programs (MMR, Varicella, Hep B, Tdap, TB screening)
  • Comply with OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Training requirements (included in the course)
  • Be able to meet the physical demands of the role (standing, manual dexterity, safe handling of equipment)

While Massachusetts does not require state licensure for phlebotomists, employers and national certifying bodies expect training that meets CLIA, CDC, and OSHA standards, which are fully integrated into STARGA’s curriculum.must do the following:
