EKG Technician Course

 

 

The EKG Technician Course at STRAGA Training Institute will prepare students to perform electrocardiograms, monitor cardiac rhythms, and support physicians and nurses in diagnosing cardiovascular conditions. Our curriculum follows Massachusetts healthcare training expectations, OSHA and CDC safety standards, and federal CLIA guidelines, ensuring students are trained to meet the highest standards of accuracy, safety, and professionalism.

This program is ideal for individuals entering the healthcare field or preparing for national EKG certification exams.

Course Overview

 

 

Students will receive comprehensive instruction in:

  • Anatomy & physiology of the cardiovascular system
  • EKG lead placement and cardiac conduction pathways
  • Performing 12‑lead EKGs
  • Rhythm interpretation (normal and abnormal)
  • Identifying arrhythmias and cardiac emergencies
  • Holter monitoring and stress testing procedures
  • Infection control and OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards
  • Patient preparation, communication, and safety
  • Equipment operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance
  • Medical terminology and documentation

Hands‑on practice is conducted using clinical‑grade EKG machines and simulation equipment to ensure students gain confidence and competence.

Program Requirements

 

 

To enroll in the EKG Technician Course, students must:

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Provide a valid government‑issued ID
  • Meet Massachusetts healthcare immunization requirements (MMR, Varicella, Hep B, Tdap, TB screening)
  • Comply with OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Training (included in the course)
  • Be able to meet the physical demands of the role (standing, reaching, manual dexterity)

While Massachusetts does not require state licensure for EKG technicians, employers and national certifying bodies expect training that meets CLIA, CDC, and OSHA standards—standards fully integrated into STRAGA’s curriculum.

What Students Will Learn

 

 

Our program will ensure students master the following:

  • Accurate 12‑lead EKG placement
  • Recognition of sinus rhythms, atrial rhythms, ventricular rhythms, and heart blocks
  • Identifying artifacts and correcting poor tracings
  • Preparing patients for EKGs, Holter monitors, and stress tests
  • Understanding cardiac medications and their effects on EKGs
  • Maintaining patient comfort, privacy, and safety
  • Proper documentation and communication with clinical staff
